Heart First, Head Second

It’s not uncommon to find people who believe that negativity is practical and positivity is unrealistic. Your heart knows more than you may give it credit. While the heart may get you into a situation from time to time that doesn’t appear to make sense, we need to throw ourselves out of our comfort zone in order to develop, stimulate personal growth, and live more fully.

If we live from our heads, we’re always going to be making decisions that look the best on paper and appear to be the most “practical” choice. You heart is what mixes with intuition and creates a connection with our “gut feeling.” While it would be silly to make decisions based on a whim or purely emotion, there is a lot of room for opportunity when the heart comes first and the mind comes second.

We don’t need to be impractical, but we need to be brave to try something that might not work out as well as planned. If we suppress the dreams and hopes we have because they don’t seem “practical” to obtain, then we are going to live an unfulfilling life. Fear of failure easily prevents many of us from trying something new.

It’s ok to fail when you can handle the damages. It would not be best to jump into situations which could risk going into major bankruptcy or which could have a detrimental impact to society. However, if we have an idea to start up a business and have enough money to get started, then why not take the risk? Anyone could easily use that extra money to buy some clothes, buy gifts, or take a vacation. However, what if that money went toward that new business idea and things took off? There would be a lot more money to put towards those additional things in life.

If the focus is always on what is practical, it’s easier to become less emotionally involved. The expressions, “It’s nothing personal, just business” is a commonly heard expression in movies which best describes this mindset. If we aren’t emotionally invested, but centered on making money or safe decisions to try and make less chance for loss, emotionally or financially, then we’re going to cut ourselves off from a deeper potential for gain.

No one is loyal to a company or boss who only provides a paycheck. What builds loyalty is an emotional connection. An emotional connection comes from care, listening, understanding, and actually investing into others. The heart is what creates endurance when times get tough. Without the heart, the mind is more easily tempted to throw in the towel and quit something when it becomes difficult. Follow your heart first, then use your head, and your passion for life will increase.
