Let's Push Pause

Steve Sherk Photography - Seoul Photographer Korea

Have you thought about why you do what you do? It’s sounds like a silly question, but sometimes we start acting because of subconscious beliefs that may or may not actually be conducive to quality or healthy living.

It’s easy to justify bad habits by saying that it’s “just the way we are.” Of course, we aren’t perfect, but I’m sure there is a lot we could do to step up our game and become better versions of ourselves. Who wants to be a second-rate version of themselves? However, that’s often what many of us fall into without questioning why our actions aren’t producing the results that we want.

First, we need to stop and pause – maybe 10 minutes, half a day, a full day, a week, or even a month. Whatever it takes to get straightened out – that’s the amount of time we need to take in order to get going in the proper direction. All to often we blame the symptoms rather than the actual cause of our struggles and problems. It’s time for us to dig deep.

It takes a lot of work to break down internal processes and ways of thinking. It takes a lot of time to heal. All too often, people find it easy to drink booze or pop a pill to numb out the messages that call all too clearly. The messages are there for a reason, and they’ll still be there once any substance eventually wears off.

The classic phrase rings true, “the unexamined life is not worth living.” Sounds harsh? Maybe it is - a directionless life the sways to the whims of what’s popular at the time becomes nameless, stands for nothing, and eventually turns into nothing.

Before this turns to depressing, let’s turn things up into a positive light. As long as you are alive, you have a chance to change your life today. If you are happy and totally in touch with your true self, then that’s awesome. However, if you are even just 90% satisfied with yourself and the direction you’re going, then it’s time to push pause and think about where you’re going.

It’s not a complicated to figure out if you hate your job, hate an addiction, or simply don’t feel motivated. Dig deep and you can find the answers with little or no trouble. It’s just being able to accept the truth that tends to be the difficult part. Life is an awesome gift and we have the potential to be excited and motivated to live fully at any age.
