Happy to Be

If you didn’t have anything to do today, how would you feel? Would you feel happy, relaxed, stress, or anxious? Many times, we don’t know what to do with ourselves. Life is way more than the daily activities and the work we do. Can you simply exist and find joy in that, by itself?
At times, I’m definitely guilty of being a human-doing rather than a human-being. I hate that I can accomplish a great number of things but still not find satisfaction in doing so. Something tells me that I’m not alone in the struggle, and have plenty of company that feels just the same way.
Life can be tricky, and it’s good to take a step back to learn. So many people think that money is going to make them happy, so they work away their lives. Even with no guarantee of getting rich, people work to earn money in hopes of finding peace and security.
Unfortunately, everything goes away eventually and we’re left with nothing but reflection on life when we’re upon our deathbed. I don’t think that any of us would be wishing that we could have squeezed in a few more hours at the office. Rather, we’d think about the times we really lived, what that meant, and the legacy we’re going to leave behind.
It’s not easy to stop and smell the roses when you got bills to pay. However, we need to take a look at the big picture. In doing so, we gain perspective and start to realize how serious we take temporary moments. Much of our time could be spent on our relationships and being in the present moment. Life is happening right now - not in the past and not in the future.
Think about this moment right now – does this reading have your complete attention, or are you also thinking about what responsibilities you have to do today? We often rob ourselves of joy, peace, and moments when we should have fun because the sense of duty to perform and provide can often impede our good time. I’m not saying to be irresponsible, but remember to enjoy life, otherwise the big picture is being missed.
It’s interesting how often the elderly know about life, but aren’t in a condition to live as freely as they could. We can learn a lot equally from a life that’s been fully lived or a life that’s gone with dreams unrealized. Be aware, and be present.
