Every day, we make both little and big decisions. We make choices, both consciously and unconsciously, which further paves the way for how we live our lives. While we may be tempted to think of a single decision or choice existing as a static moment that serves the purpose of getting us to a farther point in our lives, that decision we make creates an impact on a level much deeper level than we may expect.

Every choice we make not only affects our lives, but the lives of those around us. While an action may seemingly be thought of as arbitrary, someone around us may interpret that action as more meaningful than originally intended. We have the capability of influencing others around us in a way that is completely unknown to us – this is why it’s important to live our lives in integrity. A spontaneous moment may be interpreted as a statement of lifestyle to someone who is unfamiliar with who you are.

There is a concept called the “snowball effect.” This idea generally concludes that what you are doing may perpetuate itself and it becomes easier to keep doing what’s already in motion. The same concept applies with the ripples. If you keep doing the same thing over and over again, it eventually becomes more powerful and results in waves.

What kind of ripples do you want to put into the world? We don’t need to be famous or powerful in order to influence others. Simply, what we choose to focus on and talk about goes a long way in affecting the environment around us. It’s amazing how quickly people adapt to the energy that is around them. It takes no effort to be apart of the majority.

Negativity is rampant - it takes literally no effort to be a jerk and keep that wave going. However, what if we had something positive to say? In today’s modern society, positivity is nearly associated with being cheesy or disingenuous. That’s interesting, because it takes no effort to be negative – it’s easy to do in an imperfect world. But, being grateful goes a long way when we consider how many blessing we have in our lives.

Why not throw something positive into the pool of life? The most important parts aren’t who we are and what we do – think about the future. Life is more than being cool, smart, funny, popular, or anything related to social status. It’s a gift and an opportunity – make the most of it for yourself and for the next generation.
