My twenties are coming to a close after today, and I’m actually pretty excited about the beginning of the next decade of my life. I’m more determined to accomplish goals in my thirties than any previous New Year planning or resolutions. I got all my kicks out in my twenties - a lot of it was crazy, fun, and adventurous, but it was also a time to mature, develop and understand. It was really the perfect time to let out my irresponsible choices - not that they needed to be made, but better to let it our earlier than later.

A lot of us gain understanding, and preferably so, from someone older than us with experience. Others learners, such as myself, want to learn firsthand from the consequences of why you should or shouldn’t do something. For me, it’s been the most effective way to learn. However, this kind of learning may come with pain, regret, and suffering which could otherwise have been avoided.

I’ve had an incredible end to my twenties. Now that I’m a husband, and soon-to-be father, and full-time photographer, I’ve got my feet set where I want them to go. The last three months have been especially insightful and deeply spiritual. I couldn’t be happier with the direction life is going.

When I was a young, around the teenage years, I hated thinking about getting old. I wanted life to stay “fun” and not carry responsibilities of being older. I thought that getting older would be boring and mundane. However, when I think about what I’ve learned or done from my past sessions of partying, I feel sad with the lack of development or meaningfulness. When we don’t have responsibilities, we don’t have depth into our lives.

We grow deeper when we are more connected with life, relationships, and God. It’s hard to appreciate those things when you are young because entertainment is alluring and it’s everywhere. We get gain from life directly by how much effort we put into it. One may think they are free to do whatever they want if they choose not to involved with responsibilities. However, there's much to be gained.

Responsibilities help us to gain meaning, depth, and character. It’s through experiencing the benefits that come with responsibility in which we understand the value that comes from hard work, commitment, and care. Don’t let responsibility intimidate or prevent you from gaining development, insight, and blessings in your life. Life isn’t always easy and fun, but it can always be rewarding.
