Make Your New Years Resolution Last

We’re still in the first week of 2016 and we have a whole new year ahead of us. There are a plenty of high hopes, dreams, and goals that we all want to obtain. Sadly, many of us will fail to accomplish what we set out to achieve this year. Others will obtain their goals, but will those goals satisfy the long-term impact of their lives? Set yourself up for a successful 2016.
Goals need to have an exact purpose and take into account the big picture. Most people would like to be fit, responsible, eat healthier, take in less sugar, and so on. However, a goal is flimsy when the motivation behind it is to “feel better” or “look better.” Looking and feeling better is only relevant and is a state of mind subject to inconsistency. Some days, we will feel great - other days, not so much. We need more substance to our goals and keep those goals in line with our priorities so we can see the results we want.
Goals are more effective when we can understand all the benefits it could include. While there is nothing wrong with eating healthier so that you could look better, it would help to add more reasons and benefits. Eating healthier means that you will have more energy to accomplish more tasks. Additionally, being healthier means that your mental state will be more positive and your relationships can improve. When you can include how you can benefit other people, such as your family or those you work with, then the goal becomes less self-oriented.
Of course, there’s nothing wrong with doing something to benefit yourself, but if the only motivation for accomplishing something is for personal benefit, then it’s easy to become lazy and slack, especially if you are your only source of motivation. However, if you want to be a better person for your community, then you are able to see more benefits from the effort you put in.
Goals are just like adventures and happiness – they’re all better when shared. You don’t need to have a partner to hold you accountable and do the same goal that you’re trying to accomplish - just by seeing an improvement in their life because of the improvements you are making in your life will add fuel to the fire of motivation.
Best of luck to your goals and dreams in 2016~
