Many of us go through life without really knowing who we are on the inside. It doesn’t matter what label we try to put on ourselves, what labels others put on us, or how great we look. If we don’t know what’s on the inside, then we’re going to accept whatever labels the world throws at us or spend our lives trying to convince ourselves that we’re the persona we want to portray.

We often get distracted with outside appearances and labels even though fads die out over time, celebrities get old, and fashion always changes. If an outwards appearance were the only shot at achieving something of value, then we’ve begun a losing battle.

While this is not always true in every case, I believe that attractive people and celebrities have the hardest time adapting to difficulties in the real world. People who are attractive or famous are more likely to have people fawn over them. They are often given attention without having done much to incite the attention. Studies have shown that most people see attractive people, especially dressed well, as more kind, generous, and trustworthy. However, while this sounds like an advantage, there are negative effects that potentially can occur.

If we were to have our needs catered to, with little effort on our parts, then we would have a hard time growing into strong people. Difficulties help us to adapt, learn, and move forward. Michael Jackson has been one of the highest grossing artists of all time. He was a huge celebrity even from his childhood. While he had an incredible amount of wealth and success, he was deeply troubled and had a hard time adapting as an adult in the real world. People adored him but he hadn’t learned how to be comfortable with himself.

Sometimes we find ourselves when we’re in the middle of stress. Sometimes, we just need to get away from it all and allow ourselves some space to grow. Everyone has different techniques for finding development, but the key is to listen. Listen to ourselves, listen to our bodies, and listen to what’s going on inside. It’s easy to get caught up in busywork and life. Work life can keep us distracted from what’s really going on with us. Vacations shouldn’t be taken for granted and neither should the opportunity to be self-employed.

Taking some time to figure out what’s going on inside of ourselves keeps us away from worrying about what kind of labels may come our way. People may call us whatever they want, but it doesn’t change who we really are.
