Reconciliation

Steve Sherk Photography - Seoul Photographer Korea

Most times, it won’t come easy for us to simply forgive people when we get screwed over. Anger can be a healthy emotion - we shouldn’t feel bad about feeling it, but we can’t let it run our lives. Of course, no one is perfect, but it can be hard to let go of pain and the damage we’ve taken. The process of forgiveness and reconciliation can be a long one, but it’s a route worth taking. Forgiveness isn’t just for others, but for ourselves.

Interestingly, a lot of pain can be avoided. There are times we feel that others are rude to us, don’t give us the respect we deserve, or simply aren’t acting the way we want. That’s not always a problem that directly involves us. The poor behavior of others reflects their own characteristics and level of maturity. It may not be easy, but we can’t let the opinion of others deter us from the opinion of ourselves.

Forgiving others isn’t just made by a single decision. It’s a process, and we need to be honest about it. As much as we’d like to just say that we’re fine and an offense is not a big deal, it’s simply not the usual case.

If we try to shortcut to the ending, and say everything is cool, then we’re not being honest with ourselves. We need to fully feel pain, hurt, and disappointment in order to properly heal, learn, and move forward. I’ve tried to forgive people many times, simply to get them off my chest. However, if I’m not honest with myself on how much damage has been done, then I can’t move forward.

It can sometimes take a long time. That’s tough, but it’s ok. Life is about learning. Not everyone who smiles is happy. We often feel pressure to appear perfect and bulletproof because that’s what we may think makes a person strong. In reality, people who aren’t honest with themselves in a fairy tale.

Anger comes to all of us. It’s an ugly truth, but we don’t have to live in hate as a lifestyle. Growth comes from unlikely places. We aren’t here to be entertainers or be a happy face that’s fun to be around. Life can be quite hard and feel cold at times, but what’s on the other side is definitely worth the trials. The best friendships are often born through hardships.
