There was a man who came by some workers whom in the process of constructing a building. Curious on what they were working on, he asked the first worker what he was doing; the worker replied, “I’m making my wages for the day.” The man continued to the next worker and asked the same question, to which he answered, “I’m measuring the boards.” The man came to the final worker, and after asking the same question, receiving the response, “I’m creating a home for a family to live in.”

We all have a job to do, but what’s more important is the purpose and intent behind it. I’ve previously worked jobs simply because I needed the wages. Sometimes you need to put food on your plate and make ends meet. However, if we’re not working towards our goals and dreams, we may as well do any menial task just to make ends meet, but eventually, you have to ask why you’re making ends meet in the first place. Existing for the sake of existing is an unfulfilling and mundane state of existence.

I don’t believe we’re made to just exist, take up space, get by, and then die. Men have immortality in their mind, desire in their heart, and passion in their soul for a reason. We may not know where that passion is going to lead us, but we can trust that the journey is going to be just as fulfilling, if not more fulfilling than the end result. What have we got to lose? Perhaps our dignity if we simply don’t try.

Theodore Roosevelt accomplished a lot of things in his 61 years of living. He firmly believed in “sucking the marrow out of life.” That man had a purpose and was firmly set upon his values. There are men of great who’ve led the way for others to follow.

These days, being a man and masculinity has gotten a bad rap. Feminism is great and I believe in women’s equal rights, however, there are some people who take it too far and twist it into something it shouldn’t be. There are separate genders for different reasons, and one doesn’t have to be emasculated in order for the other to be empowered. We all serve a purpose, and one purpose is not meant to be more or less important than another. Gender cannot be eliminated just because someone thinks it should be for a better environment – it simply doesn’t integrate with nature and order.

Our work and who we are need to have value – we need to become the best versions of ourselves in order to make the biggest impact in this world. We can’t twist morals, values, and integrity - they exist for a reason. The world needs good people more than ever now. Will it be you to help make it change?
